Bid For Glory receives the Laurels

Colwick Park (Nottingham) has proved a happy hunting ground for Auction House’s progeny in the past, and so it proved again today (June 13th), with Bid for Glory’s win in the United Pallet Network Handicap (3yo, 0-95).

Having given the second placed horse three pounds, Bid for Glory put up a determined effort to beat the 2/1 favourite, Lady Gloria, by a head.

Bid For Glory had broken well and tracked the leaders until 2 furlongs out, when Richard Hughes decided to switch to right, after finding no room on the inside. Bid for Glory responded well to the jockeys urgings to catch the leaders and stay on to record his first Victory this term.

Richard Hughes after the race, said of the winner, that he thought he would get further and was a good prospect for pattern race company this year.

A step up in class would not be uncharted territory as Bid For Glory was 4th to subsequent Tattersalls Musidora (Gr3) second, Sweet Lilly, in a 2yr old listed contest at Pontefract last year.

A home bred, Bid For Glory was a 17,000gn yearling in Doncaster Bloodstock Sales’ October Sale, and is from the family of Listed scorer Amron and Gr3 placed Tinjar.

December 2006

Another cold winter's day, another AUCTION HOUSE winner, taking the haul for the 2006 season to 12 individual winners of 13 races. This time a second win for ESTIMATOR in training with Pat Eddery making it 2 from 2 in classy efficient style by winning the 6f nursery at Wolverhampton for The Moonax Syndicate.

Having won his maiden on his debut at Kempton earlier in the month, the 2-y-o son of Auction House was running off a mark of 74 in the 0-75 contest and there was a lot of confidence beforehand, judging by his odds which shortened from an early 11/10 to an SP of 8/15. The horse made all and was driven out in the closing stages under Dane O'Neill after again showing signs of greenness. There is sure to be more improvement to come from this very likeable colt.

ESTIMATOR brought a touch of class to yesterday's twilight meeting at Kempton when making a winning debut in the two-year-old 6f maiden to the delight of the Moonax Syndicate. The Auction House colt, who only cost £15,000 guineas, had always shown plenty of natural ability at home and was due to make his racecourse appearance during the summer when he unfortunately fractured a pelvis. However, the combination of rest, mother nature and a patient approach by Pat and the team has reaped dividends and Estimator definitely looks a colt with a future. He took the preliminaries well but was rather green both going down to post and when he jumped out of the stalls, veering markedly right. However, he showed a lovely attitude during the race and hit the front inside the final furlong to win readily by a length and a quarter from the warm favourite, Mo.
