Tattersalls Ire September flat Sale

There was only one lot on offer this year by Auction House at the Co’ Meath venue.

A Bay Colt out of the Mujadil Mare, Quantum Lady, who is a half sister to the listed winning Westcourt magic.

Offered by the Co’ Tipperary based  Michael Downey, the colt drew interest from Ger Lyons amongst others, but it was UK based David Redvers who made up for the disappointment of being the under bidder on a Auction House at the St Leger sales by securing this lot for 36,000 euros. The colt is to go into training with Karl Burke in Middleham.

Doncaster October Yearlings ‘06

Llety Stud were hoping to build on the successes of the St Leger sales when they returned to the south Yorkshire venue for DBS’S final yearling sale of the year.

On offer were two Auction House Colts. The first through the ring was Ms Z Watkins bay colt out of Seren Teg, who showed a healthy return on the covering fee, when being knocked down to Karl Burke for 17,500gns.

Next up was Llety’s own colt out of the Pursuit of Love mare Lady-Love. Coming from the family of Lady Day and Video Rock, the well topped and athletic colt had drawn considerable interest outside the ring, and the gate was full when he walked in.

Bidding was spirited with Jeremy Glover, Peter Makin and Johnny McKeever making some of the running but it was Andrew Hollinshead, son of Reg Hollinshead, who had the final say at 30,000gns.

Doncaster St Leger Sale ‘06

Llety has enjoyed a tremendous sales season this year starting off at the traditional opening of the yearling sales season at Doncaster’s St Leger sales.

There was a worry that the new format of the St Leger sale might prove difficult, but this concern was blown away during a fierce week of trading at the south Yorkshire venue, which saw Llety’s' premier Stallion Auction House consolidate his position as one of the leading commercial sales sires in the UK.

Trading started well, with the fourth lot through the ring, an Auction House colt out of Folly Finnesse (Joligeneration) from the family of listed winner and Gr3 placed Westcourt Magic making a very respectable 18,000gns. The bay colt was bought by Mrs Rosemary Morley and is to go into training with John Weymes.

Auction Houses’ day continued with the bay Colt out of Cozzete, who is a full brother to Autumn Storm (Auction House). Autumn Storm won his maiden in June as is well thought of by his trainer Roger Ingram.

Bidding was spirited for the Dark bay colt with Nicky Vaughn coming out on top at 38,000gns. Showing a 12 time’s increase on his covering fee.

Nicky has bought the colt for Newcastle and England football star Michael Owen and it will be trained by Nicky at his new 120acre training facility in Cheshire.

The next lot through the ring was also consigned by Llety, a Bay Colt by Fayruz out of the listed placed Petong mare Demolition Jo, who has an Auction House foal for next years yearling sales.

Trainer John Quinn from Malton secured this lot for 14,000gns.

Although this was the last lot from Llety for the day it was not the last by Auction House, as David Browns’ Furnace Mill Stud, had a Bay Colt by Auction House out of Shining Oasis. She is the dam of Auction Oasis by Auction House who is a two times placed and winner from only 4 starts for Bryn Palling.

There had been some talk about the colt earlier around the ring, and when he came in, the gate soon filled. Bidding went on a pace with Henry Candy, trainer of Airwave amongst other top class horses winning the final battle with David Redvers to secure the good walking colt for 58,000gns.

Day two brought more recognition for Auction House when the final two lots from Llety went through the ring. The first up was lot 323 an Auction House colt out of Dazzling Quintet (Superlative). This colt was a full brother to Apollo Five from the family of listed scorer Bees ‘N’ Honey.

He was finally knocked down for a respectable 17,000gns to Ken McPherson.

The final Llety consigned lot was the next through the ring. A chestnut Colt from the family American sire Sir Beau. He was finally led out for 27,000gns having sold to Irish trainer and former jockey Ger Lyons.

On the final day of a superb St Leger sale Auction House had only one representative, a bay/brown colt out of the Petong mare Petinata who was also knocked down to the Kingstone Warren handler, Henry Candy, for 9,000gns.

Newmarket Part 2

October has seen the sales season intensify with sales coming one after the other as the sales carnival moves around Europe.

For Llety the October sales at Newmarket were their next venue for selling and Auction House was represented by 3 colts.

The first through the ring was Lot 1561, a Full brother to Hythe Bay, form the family of Hardgreen and Richmond Stakes (Gr2) winner Castlegreen.

The colt was finally knocked down to well know judge and breeze up consigner Willie Brown, after a spirited battle with many other bidders, including former trainer Jeremy Glover and Derby winning trainer Michael Bell, for 30,000gns.

The next Auction House to grace the ring was a bay colt out of the Deploy mare Lady Ploy. A half brother to the tough and consistent Jakarmi, and from the family of Willshe Gan and Open Season.

Epsom trainer Roger Ingram, who has had some success with Auction Houses’ this season, went to 10,000gns to secure the lot.

The final Auction House on offer at the historic park paddocks in part 2, was a first foal out of the Merdon Melody mare Sophies Symphony. Sophies Symphony was a winner at two and comes from the family of Governors Imp and Samba Boy.

Local Newmarket trainer Hugh Collingridge, who has the highly thought of Auction House colt Bid For Glory in his care, went to 16,000 for the very taking bay colt.

Although Llety only brought 3 Auction Houses to part two they did consign three other lots.

The first of these was half sister to the Auction House colt Estimator, who is in training with Pat Eddery.

The filly, by Spinning World, was knocked down to Ben Haslam, assistant trainer to his father Patrick in Middleham, for 16,000gns.

The other to lots on offer under the Llety banner were a Statue of Liberty colt out of the Danehill mare Daisy Do and a King Charlemagne colt out of Solar Flare, a Danehill mare form the family of Crimson Slew.

These two lots were consigned for the Troed Y Rhiw stud and made 34,000gns and 19,000gns respectively.
